Exceptional Student Program (ESP)
For grades K5 - 8th Grade
The Elementary and Middle Schools Exceptional Student Program Department provides support in a variety of ways. The ESP staff will determine what level of support your child will need in order to progress academically, socially, and emotionally. The student must have an IEP or 504 for the program.
Level 1 - An annual staffing meeting will be held regarding student academic needs. Exceptional Student Program staff will consult annually with classroom teachers, and therapy providers to ensure accommodations are provided by teachers in the general classroom. A transition plan will be provided for students transitioning from middle school to high school.
Level 2 - Students will work in class at the end of the day for assistance with organizing materials and prioritizing tasks for homework and large assignments. A quiet area and/or extended time for testing will be allotted.
Level 3 - Students will participate in supported ESP study hall to allow for reteaching of material covered in the general education classroom. This time will also be used to teach organizational skills. Students will be able to have tests read aloud to them by the ESP teacher when there is a documented need due to below average reading ability.
Level 4 - Students in level 4 will receive primary instruction in math, reading, and language through the Exceptional Student Program.
